Draft Board V2.0

Full Draft Board *Updated through round 6

The spreadsheet system has worked very well so far but due to some circumstances people cannot control, the draft has been going very slowly (3 hours per pick). Let's try to speed it up.

Here is a list of the full draft board:

Day 2

Slower today than yesterday... we'll try to make up for it tomorrow. Hall, Wessell, Goose, Goose, Wessell, Hall is the draft order tomorrow so be ready.

Here is the board after today's results:
I beg all of you not to draft Craig Adams... I call dibs

Day 1 Draft Results and Notes

We had a good first day but we slowed down in the late afternoon/evening.

I hope tomorrow we can get into the second round.

Here is the draft results for day 1:

Thanks to Mr. Payment, we will now have a message board system for transactions, waivers, and other hockey talk for once the draft is over.

I will upload it probably Friday.

Try to keep the draft moving quickly - if you know you will be up soon have a few players in mind going into your timeslot.

Team Names and Clerical Work

In the comments, post your

- team name
- last name if I don't have it
- a simple message to make sure I know you found the blog ok and the comment system is working
- and any other information I or the other members of the league need to know.

Official Draft Order

The draft order was determined this evening using the random function of Microsoft Excel. I randomized the list 12 times, to ensure fairness and objectivity.

On to the list:

Obviously I am missing some information from many of you. If you see anything wrong with the information above, please let me know.

As for the team names: please pick a team name by tomorrow evening so I can add it to the spreadsheet. Most of these names I picked using last name or nicknames.

Remember, 24 hours for each pick... but please do not take that long. If everyone used up all of their time the draft would take 544 days. Not exactly ideal.

If the draft is taking too long the time limit may need to be reduced.

Official Rules

The League format is as follows:

16 teams

Weekly Head to Head Matchups

- Each statistical category represents a game, where a team earns a win, loss, or tie. At the end of the week, ESPN adds the totals and awards 2 points for each win, 1 point for each tie, and 0 points for each loss. Points then automatically will be added to a standings chart to rank teams.

- Skater Categories are: Goals, Assists, +/-, PIM, power play points, shorthanded points, faceoff wins, shots on goal

- Goalie Categories are: Wins, saves, save percentage, goals against average, shutouts.

- League will be a $10 pay-in league, with cash prizes for various winners. ($ can go up if people are interested in a more serious league but I think $10 is a good price)

- Payouts are as follows:
Playoff winner: $80
Playoff Runner-up: $40
Playoff Third place: $10
Regular Season Winner: $20
Regular Season Runner Up: $10 (All money goes into the league's payouts)

- Roster Size:

- 34 players: 4 C, 4 LW, 4 RW, 6 D, 3 Util., 3 G, 5 Bench and 5 prospects. (prospects must have played less than 25 NHL games to qualify as a prospect)

- A maximum of 3 goalies per team, not including IR.

- Non-Espn players count toward the 34-player roster.

- 5 player “prospect” roster that consists of up to 5 players that have 25 games or less of NHL experience.

- Once a player reaches 25 NHL games, he must be moved onto the veteran/rookie roster or be dropped to free agency.

- End of season veteran protections (keepers):

- 10 Veterans: 1 center, 1 left wing, 1 right wing, 2 defense, 1 goalie, 4 utility.

- Veteran - Any player eligible to be in the league (even rookies and prospect if you so desire).

- One of the utility spots may be used to keep a second goalie, but no manager may protect more than two goalies.

- 5 Rookies: any position (including goalies)

- Rookies - Any skater who has played in 120 or fewer NHL games, or any goalie who has played in 60 or fewer NHL games.

- Teams may protect only two goalies, so if two goalies have been protected as veterans, no goalies can be protected as rookies.

- 5 Prospects: any position (including goalies)

- This is going to be a unique feature of this league where there will be a prospect team during the season and in the offseason that allows you to keep up to 5 prospects

- 2010 draft eligible players cannot be added as rookies or prospects, they must be drafted in the end of year draft.

- Activity: the best way to remain competitive year to year is daily or semi-daily activity. A team that lies dormant for weeks on end without explanation from owner will be have the owner replaced.

- Punishments: These punishments will be issued for all instances of rule-breaking according to the this document, as well as forms of cheating not listed. Rules may be changed at any time with a 3/4 vote from the admin team. All rule changes will be announced to the league prior to taking effect.

- A missed deadline on a draft pick will result in the following:
1. First Offense: A warning (since it is the first extended draft experience for many players).
2. Second Offense: Surrender of that round's draft pick.
3. Third Offense: Surrender of that round's draft pick and pick 10 rounds later (if there are not 10 rounds left the next-to-last available round will be surrendered).
4. Fourth Offense: expulsion from the league and a replacement will be found.

- Transactions: will be handled via spreadsheet during the draft and will be handled on the blog during the offseason. Transactions will be processed automatically during the season by ESPN's software.

- There will be no limit on transactions but dropping your players at the end of the season to ruin legitimate playoff competition will not be tolerated.

- Waivers will be 4 days during the season for a dropped player.

- In the offseason, as soon as a player is dropped he is available to any team on a first come first serve basis. Players cannot be dropped until the draft is completed.

- Trades: are encouraged throughout the season, both during the initial draft, offseason, and regular season.

- If you would like to make a trade, contact one of the admins first, then post the trade for approval on the blog. Approval will be decided by an admin vote.

- Draft: the draft will commence tomorrow at 9am. When it is your turn to draft a player, follow the instructions in the draft email that will be sent to the previously supplied email address. It is pretty self explanatory. You will have 24 hours to make your pick.

- If you know you will be unable to check your email in advance for several days, email me a list of 10-15 players in order of draft priority to ensure you do not miss a pick and receive a punishment.

Welcome

So you have all decided to join the fantasy hockey keeper league I have hastily and with great effort put together.

I'm sure there are many questions and I hope the following can answer a few of them.

  1. I know most of you personally but for those of you that don't, My name is Zach Boslett and I am currently ending my Sophomore year at Point Park University. I am a gigantic Penguins fan but I am also an NHL fan and I love watching a good hockey game. I am also a Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets (yeah I'm the one) fan as well. I have large animosity towards the Red Wings, Flyers and Capitals for obvious reasons (I'm not a fan of bright loud colors... duh.)

  2. I am starting this league because I was invited to join a keeper league as a replacement team about 4 years into the league. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience but I missed out on crafting my own team... something that I wanted to do. Several friends of mine have expressed that same desire so here we are.

  3. The league fee will be dealt with at a later date - I am just concerned right now with trying to get the league underway, strike while the iron is hot etc.

  4. The draft will commence TOMORROW so everyone watch you email inboxes over the next several weeks because this draft will be done through email. Once you get the draft email you will understand completely how the drafting process works. It is a very visual thing that needs to be explained in email.

  5. The official copy of the rules will be posted after this post for all to peruse. Any questions about the rules can be added as a comment in that post or emailed to me.
